Occupational hygiene is the recognition, evaluation and control of risks within the working environment. Using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work can put people’s health at risk consequently the law requires employers to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) (as amended) sets out how to protect both employees and others who may be exposed.
The services we offer include local exhaust ventilation (LEV) testing; monitoring to assess operator exposure to hazardous dusts, mists, fumes, fibres and vapours; compressed breathing air quality assessments; noise at work assessments, including hearing protection suitability; assessment of exposure to hand-arm vibration (HAV); compilation, completion and review of COSHH assessments amongst others.

Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) is a regulatory system that employs an integrated approach to control the environmental impacts in certain industrial activities. It involves determining the appropriate controls for the industry to protect the environment through a single permitting process. To gain a permit, operators will have to show that they have systematically developed proposals to apply the Best Available Techniques (BAT) and meet certain other requirements, taking into account of relevant local factors.
You may be required to apply for a permit or you may be making a significant change to your process. In both cases an application for a permit is required. Integra have an ‘in-house’ expertise to guide operators through the application process and assist in evaluation and assessment of environmental impacts. Many operators will already have their permit to operate but may be required to fulfil conditions included in improvement plans, a process we can help you with.

New environmental legislation has emerged, termed as Producer Responsibility Legislation. This affects already a number of products such as Packaging, Electronic and Electrical Equipment and Vehicles. It is anticipated that more products will come under such legislation, eventually all.
The Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Regulations, for example, set targets for British industry to recover and recycle packaging waste. Under the regulations any company that has a turnover of over two million pounds and handles or uses 50 tonnes of packing material a year has a legal requirement to comply with legislation. Integra can assist you in the data collection required to be submitted to authorities as well as in auditing your packaging activities to help you meet your legal obligations and find opportunities for reducing packaging waste.
