Course Summary

Our course outlines the key requirements of DSEAR and gives an understanding of the legal requirements & duties of employers. Dangerous substances are any substances used or present at work that could, if not properly controlled, cause harm to people as a result of a fire or explosion.  They can be found in nearly all workplaces and include such things as solvents, paints, varnishes, flammable gases, such as liquid petroleum gas (LPG), dusts from machining and sanding operations and dusts from foodstuffs.

Delegates will be introduced to the principals of fire, explosion & typical examples of dangerous substances & will be able to identify hazards from these substances and understand typical effective control measures.

Delegates will be assessed at the end of the course and can be provided with certificates upon request. Our DSEAR course can also be tailored to suit individual clients needs & particular hazards & risks.

  • The principals of fire & explosion.
  • Requirements of & compliance with DSEAR.
  • Risk Assessment requirements.
  • Control Measures, typical control measures & best practice.
  • Area classification, Establishment of “Zones” & Equipment selection & Use.
  • Training & Competence, requirements for information, training & competence of employees.
  • Introduction to guidance and approved codes of practice on DSEAR
  • Individual Assessment & course feedback.

Ways to Study

  • Block Release – A classroom based course consisting of one full teaching day.

Teaching and Assessment

This course combines group discussions and practical exercises including both group exercises and  individual assessment. Delegates will receive an Integra certificate upon completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

There are not set entry requirements for this course although a good command of the English language is essential.

  • One day course, full introduction to DSEAR
  • Half day course, awareness of DSEAR
