Carrying out an assessment of environmental aspects and impacts – how to do it, what to cover, how to determine significance, what records to keep etc – is often one of the most daunting parts of developing an Environmental Management System complying with ISO 14001. This practical workshop not only provides the background to what is required, but also actually develops a first draft of the organisation’s Register of significant impacts which is the core of any environmental management system.
• What is meant by Aspects and Impacts
• What is meant by Significant and How it is Determined
• How Assessment can be Carried Out
• Draft Assessment for the Organisation
This training is normally carried out as an in-company workshop so the approach is flexible. A total time of 1 and a half days is normally required. Ideally, the first stage is a half-day introductory session, based on ISO 14001 requirements, at which the group decides on what information is needed for the Aspects and Impacts assessment, and how this will be gathered. This is followed about 2-4 weeks later with a one-day workshop when this information is analysed and assessed. This provides the first draft of the assessment, which can then be refined by the group in their own time.
The Environmental Aspects and Impacts Programme is delivered over 1.5 days.
