Course Summary

The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate is a qualification for individuals working, or looking to work, within a construction environment and who have day-to-day responsibilities for providing advice on all issues relating to health, safety and welfare. The course provides you with a good understanding and basic knowledge of health and safety, whilst highlighting the implications your decisions can have.

Course Content

  • Unit NGC 1: Management of Health and Safety
  • Unit NCC 1: Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities
  • Unit NCC 2: Health and Safety Practical Applicatio

Ways to Study

  • Block Release – A structured classroom based course consisting of three full week blocks (non continuous) including revision and exams.
  • Top Up (NCC Elements only) – two full week blocks (non continuous) including revision and exams.
  • Supported Distance Learning – A more flexible non classroom based method of study which gives you responsibility for your own study time.

Teaching and Assessment

The assessment consists of two written exam papers and a practical health and safety assessment of a workplace situation. The two written papers ( NGC 1 and NCC 1) each containing one 20 mark question and ten 8 mark questions, each paper is two hours long. Delegates undertaking the top up programme are only required to sit the NCC1 written examination and the practical assessment.

Entry Requirements

There are no set entry requirements for the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate, although a good command of the English language is essential.

Top Up (NCC Elements only) – Candidates must have previously completed either the NGC1 examination or Unit A of the NEBOSH Diploma within the last 5 years to be eligible for the full award. Individual unit awards maybe taken with no prior qualification.

Course Duration

NEBOSH stipulate a recommended teaching and study time for all their national programmes. The recommended teaching time for this course is:

  • Full Programme (including NGC1) – 105* taught hours and 52* hours of private study and background reading
  • Top Up (NCC Elements only) – 68* taught hours and 29* hours of private study and background reading

*depending on the format of the course

Professional Body Memberships

Having gained the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate you are eligible for membership of the institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) – Tech IOSH and Associate Membership of the IIRSM.

Holders of the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate can progress onto a variety of programmes.

Successful completion entitles you to exemptions from the NGC1 elements of:

  • NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health

Alternatively the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate provides a great basis for progression onto:

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
